You know the saying: “You are what you eat”, so what we put into our bodies matter. Eating Fruit daily will help maintain a healthy diet.
I’m just getting this new blog started. This is my first blog. Be sure to come back every week for more information on a new featured Fruit from around the world. This will be very informative and educational.
Kiwi fruit (Chinese Gooseberry) come from China and grows wild. Kiwis are rich in nutrients and have a high content of Vitamin C, they also contain Vitamin E, potassium, fiber and various antioxidants which help remove free radicals from the body. Free radicals are unstable molecules that the body produces during metabolism and other processes. A build up of too many free radicals can cause cell damage and may lead to heart disease or cancer. Antioxidants help to protect the body by removing these free radicals.
Kiwis have a brown outside skin that is kind of fuzzy and should be removed before eating. The inside of the kiwi is green and has black seeds and an inner core, all of which can be eaten. They are soft and very juicy and tasty, but have a subtle tartness to them. Kiwis, once cut into have a very nice aroma.
Kiwis are good by themselves or added to a fruit salad or used as a decoration on a platter of other foods. Here are some recipes you may want to look up online and try yourself: strawberry kiwi smoothie, kiwi lime pie, fruit salsa with kiwi, chocolate covered kiwi pops, kiwi sorbet, and kiwi lime soup.
My personal experience with kiwis is when I was younger my uncle would grab a kiwi and just bite into it, without peeling it. He would do this quite often and one day he gave me one to eat with the peel still on it. He said go ahead just try it, so I did. It was awful, it felt like I had a hairball in the back of my throat. Let’s just say that was the first and last time I did that. Yup I definitely prefer to eat my kiwis peeled. They really do taste much better that way.
Lychee fruit (Litchi chinensis) comes from China and Southeastern Asia, they have been consumed there for over 4000 years. The exotic Lychee fruit is from the soapberry family. They grow on evergreen trees that can grow up to 30 feet tall. They are loaded with several Vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, Copper, and Potassium which help keep your heart healthy. Epicatechin and Rustin which also improve heart health also can reduce the risk of cancer and diabetes.
Lychee fruit have a sweet and flowery flavor, and are usually eaten over ice, ice cream or sherbet and can be turned into juice. The outside of the Lychee is pink-red, and the skin has a leathery texture and a seed in the center of the fruit, that must be removed before eating. The Lychee fruit is smooth and has a white fleshy texture on the inside and is very tasty.
There are so many ways to prepare and use Lychees in foods. Here are a few recipes you might be interested in looking up on the internet: Chocolate Lychees, Lychee sherbet, Stuffed Lychee, Pinapple Lychee Haupia, Lychee-ginger granita, creamy strawberry Lychee popsicles, and Valentines Day Isfahan Style Pink Raspberry Lychee Pavlova.
My personal experience and first time being introduced to Lychee fruit was in July 1997 when my Grandmother, Mother and I were in Long Beach walking downtown when suddenly my Grandmother had to use the restroom. We came upon this Chinese restaurant and asked if she could use the restroom. The owner of the restaurant said only if we buy something off the menu. We had just finished eating not too long before. So we searched for the least expensive item on the menu, and there it was, Lychee fruit $2.99. So we asked for 3 forks and after Grandma finished in the restroom, we started to enjoy this wonderful treat and that is the day I feel in love with Lychee fruit.
Since the beginning of time, people have been benefiting from eating fruit.
